BOTOX INJECTIONS FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING

What are Botox injections?

Botox injections are most known for their ability to minimise the look of wrinkles on the face. Botox injections are injections that contain a purified protein that blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Botox injections prevent sweat production at the injection site. They're also used to treat conditions like neck spasms, overactive bladder, and dull eyes. Botox injections may potentially be beneficial in the prevention of chronic migraines.

When are Botox injections used?

Botox injections are used to treat neuromuscular conditions such as migraines, muscle spasms and hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, refers to abnormal sweating patterns.

Dr Ndongeni may recommend Botox injections if you are diagnosed with hyperhidrosis and the condition is not improving even with prescribed antiperspirants or other medications.

How do Botox injections work?

During the procedure, Dr Ndongeni will apply a topical anaesthetic for increased comfort. He will then inject the botox injections into the skin near the sweat glands, which are responsible for perspiration. Botox injections are administered with the use of a very fine needle. This will paralyse your overactive nerves, where your body commonly sweats, which results in you not sweating in the specific area where the botox injections are injected. This procedure doesn't take long, and it may be completed during an office visit.

What can you expect after botox injections?

You may resume your normal day-to-day activities immediately after receiving botox injections. It takes 2-7 days for you to stop sweating in the treated area, and it may take approximately two weeks before the area becomes dry. Botox effects are temporary, which means you may need more botox injections for excessive sweating.

For underarm sweating, dryness may last for 4-14months, and it may last longer for the hands and feet. Two weeks after the procedure, you will have a follow-up appointment with Dr Ndongeni, where he will check your healing progress and also discuss any concerns that you may have.

Dr Ndongeni will discuss the benefits of Botox injections for excessive sweating. Hence, you are comfortable with this treatment approach and are aware of the process and potential side effects associated with it.

Are Botox injections painful?

How long does Botox take to work?
